Ryerson students fill half their plate!

Nov 4, 2016

img_3685At an event organized by RHEA (Ryerson Home Economics Association), students were given the opportunity to learn easy ways to fill half their plate on campus!  Students lined up in the SLC Amphitheatre on October 18th and sampled recipes from the Student Ambassador Cookbook, a new online resource created by students from across Canada to show how easy it is for students to fill half their plate while living on campus.

Kelly Chen, one of the cookbook contributors, live demoed her easy veggie loaded chickpea salad to show how simple it is to make a great meal with few ingredients.

In addition to recipe sampling, Ryerson students picked up recipes, brochures, magnets and more.

“Our Half Your Plate Student Ambassador Cookbook launch was a great success! “ Said Christina Rosati, RHEA President, “Many Ryerson students dropped by our booth with both curiosity for healthy eating and hungry tummies (of course!). We were greatly encouraged by the amount of students who wanted to know more about the Half Your Plate initiative, and how they could make some of the provided recipes for themselves. Eating healthy, balanced meals while on campus is imperative. This is commonly the place where our mind and bodies are working hard to study and stay alert. All the more reason that we need to eat nutrient rich foods that keep us going! Thank you to Half Your Plate for helping us promote these healthy eating values on Ryerson’s campus!”
